Following the 2017 solo exhibition “Paintings For Juliet”, Northern Ireland artist Rodney Dickson returned to NUNU FINE ART with a new series. Dickson loves to use lava-like textures of oil pigments so that the color is not only as a flat surface of chroma but also as every moment of the creative process on the board. This kind of stacking and scraping off large-scale pigments style has become his personal iconic painting language. For the series of new works, Dickson used more scratching and smearing techniques than before. Each line of dark red, bright yellow, and fresh orange is mixed with other colors; even every trace of white is also challenged to be as color, or as the residual space of the spatula to capture the temporality and resist the decline of our lives.
The opening will be held on January 13 (Sun.) 3:30 P.M. During the opening, we would broadcast a documentary film of Rodney Dickson filmed by New York director Bill Page. In this documentary, Dickson told Page that his creation motive is not about telling stories but sharing the inside self. When the “Aura” comes to his mind, it doesn’t lead him to shape the concrete topics and objects but to respond the fleeting ideas and feelings. If viewers are willing to spend time on the artworks, their lives may somehow be modified during the appreciation and meditation. More real than the so-called Realism, Dickson believes the technique he adopted can strike one’s mind and brings viewers a profound purification.
We sincerely welcome all friends of NUNU FINE ART to join us on January 13, 2019 to enjoy the documentary. Dickson would also share the creative ideas and the transformation of his works, leading the audiences to re-experience and understanding the stories behind them.
