“The Language of Mono-ha”
At the beginning of 2019, AKI presents the most singular art group from the 1960s, the Mono-ha. Based from the theoretical foundation of Lee Ufan, and the pioneering work of Nobuo Sekine, Phase-Mother Earth, the concept of Mono-ha explores the natural materials, such as wood, stone and earth in their mostly unaltered states. Focusing on the surrounding space as well as the interdependency of these elements, the spirit of Mono-ha seeks the essence of matters.

“A wood, or a stone, makes a universe.”
As the primary member of the group, artist Susumu Koshimizu maximizes the character of Mono-ha through the use of wood. His most identified work, From Surface to Surface, with large wood logs displaying in a radial manner, opens a window for souls to connect and for the spirits to interact.

Susumu Koshimizu is showed in Tokyo Biennale, Bienal de São Paulo, Tate Modern in London, Guggenheim Museum in New York, Gallery Blum & Poe in Los Angeles, etc. With a world renowned influence, Koshimizu invites you into the moment when human and matter connect.
