Solo Exhibition of KUO CHIH-HUNG -《In the name of mountain》
The exploration of the unknown; the desire of the world
“Exploring the unknown” is the basic spirit for this exhibition- In the name of mountain. On the framework, Chih-Hung KUO utilizes the mountain as the theme. On the texture, he uses the exploration as the main direction. Besides, he develops a lot of large and small unknown places to alternately appear. Why does he pain mountains? Which one he painted? These questions are constantly being asked. In fact, painting the mountain for the artist is an excuse to symbolize the exploration. He explores this world by the langue of art.
After eight years of artistic pursuit in Germany, artist Chih-Hung KUO returns to home town Taiwan and brings back his own style of painting. He creates a series of non-traditional landscape paintings that mingle the essence of oriental culture and western manner. KUO is gaining much attention global widely the recent years. His works have been included in many international art fairs, such as Art London16, Art Taipei, KIAF and Art Busan. He was even invited to hold a solo exhibition in Japan this year. Chih-Hung KUO’s art is appreciated by art lovers and collectors worldwide. KUO mingles the essence of oriental culture and western manner to create the unique mountain sceneries of his own. Now, we couldn’t only understand his work by the blending of Eastern and Western cultures.
“For me, whether familiar or even traditional themes and expressions, it doesn’t inspire any doubt about why it should be drawn, because it should be painted. Mountain is the natural representative of the object, is a microcosm of this world. Drawing mountain is the exploration of this world, and the essence of the world is our own understanding of it.”For KUO, Painting the mountain is his manner to explore this world
This Beauty is for mountains, or Humans?
After appreciating Kuo’s mountains, it seems to start to recall that humankind is a part of nature. We had used to live in the artificial environment, and had alienated from nature. Nature becomes the background that is hard to penetrate. However, if we see closer, we will find it just the world consititute by the dust and rock. To understand the nature of the world, we have to look at it like a moon in the distance.
To understand the birth, perfection and demise of life, we must look inside our mind , to see its most authentic appearance.
